After the improvements of personal computers, and especially the internet people start to spend less time with their friends. The game that I am going to talk about is a replacement of the turn based stretegy games (AKA. card games) that we used to play with real friends using real cards. Although it can't replace the enjoyement of playing face to face against a friend, the game still reminded me that old days and made me play it for a couple of hours.
Well, spectromancer is a turn based card strategy game by Apus Software. You fight against other dark magics in the game world by strategically summoning creatures and casting spells. Each mage uses give magical elements during a duel. Fire, Water,Air and Earth plus a fifth related to the specific mage type. There are six mage types in the game. Clerics use Holy power; Mechanicans use Mechanics; Necromancers use Death; Chaosmaster use Chaos; Dominators uses Control and lastly Illusonist use Illusions. Unfortunately you can only play as Cleric in the free flash version.
Once you get your cards, you never use them up, as you can cast the same creature or spell as long as you have the power for it. Powers are regenerated with a rate of one, however there are some spells or creatures that will give you one time power points or increase rate of generation. You can only play one card per turn and most creatures do not attack the turn thay they are placed.
The graphic art and sound effects are awesome, especially for this genre and for a free game! The game play screen is well designed, you can find the information you need easily. However it would be better if it is possible to customize the deck. You play with random cards choosen from the unlocked ones.
Briefly, if you've ever been somewhat interested in turn based card games but were scared off by the complexity or cost, then spectromancer is an excellent game to started as it is simple enough for beginners. Have fun!Play a random game
